He plays an integral part in almost everything in the game. Cloud, as most characters in FFVII do, has a sketchy past. The game opens with Cloud on a mission for AVALANCHE, where only bits and pieces of his past with the ShinRa, and SOLDIER are heard. As Cloud's partnership with AVALANCHE continues, he meets his childhood friend, Tifa Lockheart, who begs him to help their cause. She reminds Cloud of a promise that he made to her back in their hometown of Nibelheim, and she holds him to it. Cloud agrees to help, and thus begins the big adventure that is FFVII. Cloud always wields a two-handed sword, the most notable being the Buster Sword. He is an excellent fighter, and he wears a SOLDIER-esque uniform. He is quite the charmer, apparently, because both Aerith and Tifa have some sort of love for him. The unraveling the mystery that is Cloud's past is one of the major goals of the game. Many clues can be found in the basement of the Nibelheim Mansion, by searching the reports in the back of the library, as well as the tubes in the main room. Cloud's past is always tied to someone named "Zack", who is first mentioned in Gongaga. Cloud's limit breaks are very powerful, and all involve his sword. To gain his level four limit break, Cloud has to master his past six limit breaks, and has to find the "Omnislash" item. The item can be found in the Battle Arena at the Gold Saucer. On the first disc, you need 64000 battle points to get the "Omnislash" item, on disc two, you only need 32000. "Omnislash" causes Cloud to rapidly attack enemies fifteen times (if you have multiple enemies, then the effect is random), for a good deal of damage for each hit. If you don't have the patience to gain 32000 battle points, you'll automatically gain "Omnislash" in the final battle against Sephiroth. The THIRD final battle against Sephiroth. The one where you automatically win. Kitiara's Comments: Cloud... hmm. I had a hard time rating him. He does have awesome hair, pretty Mako-eyes (Sephiroth's are prettier! ^_-), kick-ass skills, an awesome level four limit break (gotta love that Omnislash). In some ways though, he seems like a rehash of several different RPG characters with tortured pasts. I liked the twist in the game where Zack was the one in SOLDIER, and that Cloud didn't make it. Maybe it's the fact that he's the main character; one of those main characters that people like, but only sort of.
